Starting after tryouts, Game Day Boots will be acting as the Maverick’s first sponsor! After 5 years, the captains have decided to retire the Justin Red Ropers that the girls have traditionally worn, due to their difficult availability. The girls will now be sporting Game Day’s beautiful, black, SMU Old Gringo boots.
For the first time ever, the SMU Mustang Mavericks are performing at the one and only Billy Bob’s Texas! We will be opening for the band, Whiskey Meyers, so come out and support the Mavericks and stay for a great concert! The team will perform at 9:45pm and stay to two-step with everyone until Whiskey Meyers starts performing at 10:30pm!
This is our first performance of 2013 and it would mean the world to have a big group of Stangs out to support us! Y’all will also be among the first to see our newest dance, to “Fake ID” by Brooks & Dunn (feat. Gretchen Wilson).
See the Calendar tab for a list of all the upcoming Mavericks events!
PS: Billy Bob’s MIGHT be giving a discount to SMU students only for that night! More news to come…
Hey y’all! Mavericks will be kickin’ some serious butt this season, and we want you to suggest some catchy country songs for our new dances! These songs should be relatively fast paced, so, if you’re at Billy Bob’s and hear something with a good beat, send it our way! Comment on this post or email the Mustang Mavericks account (email@example.com). Thanks!
Here’s 2 more design ideas that were submitted. Please comment on the image to tell us what you think!

As we develop into a move put-together team, the Captains feel that there needs to be an emblem for our team, not only for spirit wear, but something that can be easily identified on campus. Lauren has designed 15 choices, so, below, please vote on a maximum of 3 that you would like to see as our possible logo. Ignore the “Mustang” and “Mavericks” font and placement. Comment on the image if there is small change you would like to see be made to it (slight color change, horseshoe size, etc.). If you don’t like any of the designs, vote ONLY “None of them”. If y’all have any ideas, PLEASE submit them to the Mavericks email (at firstname.lastname@example.org).
Well, y’all, the first full week of school begins Tuesday which means Mavericks practices are starting up again! The Captains had a meeting earlier today and have generated a lot of great goals for this upcoming season; these ideas include learning more dances, spirit wear, and even more performance opportunities! Mavericks is still a relatively new club, and it is our job to springboard it into being a great organization that is known all across the SMU campus.
The first practice of the year will be this Thursday (January 24th) at 7:30pm. This won’t be a very intense ordeal, but it is imperative you attend or email the Captains otherwise (at email@example.com); we need to know who will be returning for this year early on so we can shuffle partners around if necessary.
We hope y’all had an amazing winter break and are excited to get back to work!
This Sunday (November 18th) is Captain Tryouts at 2pm in the Mat Room of Dedman!!! This is an exciting time because the it’s up to y’all (the team) to vote and help pick your next Captains! It is mandatory that you are at the Captain’s Tryouts and if you have a conflict, just email ASAP. It shouldn’t take longer than 20 to 30 minutes if everyone comes on time!
If you are trying out for Captain, here’s a quick refresher on what needs to be completed BEFORE this Sunday:
- You and your partner need to complete the Mustang Mavericks Tryout Form
- You and your partner need to choreograph and perform a 1 minute dance for the members of the team. This dance should be no shorter than 50 seconds and no longer than 1 minute, 10 seconds. Also, this is an entire dance, there should be no stunt section.
Best of luck!
